Like IELTS, this is a test of your academic English ability similar to IELTS which originated in the USA and remains popular there. It is aimed at those wishing to study at a higher education institution. TOEFL originates from the USA and remains very popular there. While it is accepted by UKVI for immigration purposes and many UK universities, it is not as popular an exam in the UK as IELTS. The phrase IBT means Internet Based Test. It is still possible in some places to take the Paper Based Test.
Pros: The Education Testing Service (ETS), who developed the exam, are very well established and this exam is well known outside the UK
Cons: Not well-known in the UK due to powerful competitor, IELTS
